M.i.R.a.c.L.E

I thought I better take this opportunity (while everyone else is still napping:) to write about our miraculous week. It is going to be a long post, for my own benefit b/c lets face it, it may be awhile before this makes it into a real journal, unfortunately... And so the story begins...
This entire pregnancy has been a total miracle for me. I have been so healthy and had almost no complications whatsoever. I feel so blessed for that. Time and again, I have felt reassured that though we are far away and have no family close by (like we had when I was pregnant with the boys), that we would be taken care of, that Heavenly Father was aware of all my concerns, and that we have the most amazing friends and support system around us. Truly, we are so blessed.
Anyway, about a month ago when I went to my regular appointment, they decided to send me for a growth ultrasound because baby was measuring bigger than my dates. Sure enough, baby was already estimated to weigh about 7 lbs (plus or minus 10 %). I had never been worried before, but this really concerned me. My doc was also worried that because of my history of should distosia with Isaac, that I could have similar complications with this one. SO, with that she suggested to me being induced. I also had never really considered this before, but faced with some scary last minute complications, or being induced a week early, I knew that was the obvious choice for us (plus I was already progressed to 3 cm and on my way).
The new problem then became that the hospital (and apparently state law) states that no one can be induced before 39 weeks gestation, unless of course it is a medical emergency (which, apparently my potentially beastly child was not)! So, 39 weeks was March 6th- as in the week after Ben's spring break. As in 10 days of us hanging out on break with no new baby. A little frustrating! Last week during spring break, I tried every way I could think of to induce labor. I induced contractions all the time and had very regular, serious contractions, but nothing that would sustain close enough together to send me to the hospital. I'm talking like I ran every day at least 3 miles, we hiked at Thunderbird Park and I carried Zach on my back up the mountains, crazy stuff. But alas, no go.
At the same time, during Ben's spring break, we had 10 days of little boys sickness. Isaac started with a fever and cough, then he got over it, Zach got it, then got better, then got worse. In the end, Ike got better and Z got even worse with fevers for several days spiking up to 105 at one point. So, I was trying to have a baby, my kiddos were sick and we were all sleepless, frustrated and trying to see how this would work. How could we take poor little Zachy to someone's house in the middle of the night with a terrible fever so we could go to the hospital and have a baby?! Anyway, he ended up with bronchialitis, double ear infections (twice) and an eye infection at one point too. (When it rains, it apparently pours)! We ended up spending the week between my doc and his and nursing everyone back to health (while running, etc.) By Saturday, everyone was back to good health. Zach was on antibiotic, albuterol, and a steroid to help his lungs, but finally Thursday his fever had broken and he was sleeping through the night. We felt pretty good!
Saturday, I went to a women's conference while Ben took the boys to the Children's Museum downtown. Things were looking up, but honestly, I was so tired of having true contractions that led no where, I decided I was just going to ignore them and wait until something serious (like baby's head poking out), before I psyched myself up:) We had a great Saturday with friends and spent the night on a date too. I basically resigned myself to being induced on Tuesday (even with being dialated to a 4 1/2 90% effaced).
Sunday we went to church and everything was fine. We came home and chatted with all of Ben's siblings and made a terrific meal. It was a normal day. Then that night, as I was planning for Tuesday (we had a last minute babysitter change) and all of a sudden nothing was working out. We had a list of about 15 people who could watch our kids at a moment's notice and 2 in particular that were our "go to's" and no one could watch our kids on Tuesday without a major shift in obligations. My hormones and I lost it:) I started crying. It just didn't make sense, we'd been through all of this and now at the last minute, it won't work out. Sad. So, I decided to take matters into our own hands (with the help of our Heavenly Father:)
I told Ben after dinner we were going to go walk the baby out (wanted to keep the Sabbath Day holy:) I knew that the hospital will not send you away if you are dialated past 5 cm and I knew I was at least 4 1/2. IF I could just do that 1/2 cm, I could have a baby:) So, we walked the hardest, fastest walk I could (luckily it was 80* on Sunday and still really nice after dinner). I timed my contractions on my itouch. They had been happening all day around 7-10 minutes apart, but while we walked, they came as fast as 2 minutes apart and really getting stronger. I called my friend and she came to stay with our kids and put them in bed. We ate a good luck brownie with the boys, read scriptures, said prayers and made our way to the hospital. When we arrived (about 7mins away), my contractions slowed down because we had been sitting, so we walked around the medical campus as fast as I could again for about an hour. By this time, my contractions were pretty strong and I thought it should be "good enough" to get me a ticket to the OB:)
We strolled into the hospital happy, telling them I was in labor. Our nurse later told us she didn't really believe it because she's never seen someone so happy in labor:) In triage, we found out I was dialated "almost" to a 5, but my contractions had stayed about 5 minutes apart resting. They decided to keep me!! Oh sweet relief:)
From then on, Ben and I walked holes in our path around the second floor of the hospital:) We walked for an hour, I progressed to a six, in the second hour, I stayed the same and just kept walking. I knew if the OB would come break my water, I would have the baby, but alas, it was middle of the night on Sunday, the nurse told me she would try her best to accidentally break my water, but that no OB would come in the middle of the night to break my water;( I knew that could mean a really long night since I've always had my water broken and never had hard core contractions without.
About an hour later, 230am, my OB on call just happened to have to come in to deliver another baby. Miracle of miracles, she also offered to break my water while she was there! So, I readily agreed and went from a 7 to a 10 in about 45minutes. At this point, I didn't know I was at a 10, but felt really intense shaking and pressure, so with 7 miles of walking under my belt, I decided I was just too tired and ordered an epidural. As soon as the needle was placed, they checked me again and I was at a 10. Little Reese was born a couple minutes later and about 10 minutes after that, my epidural kicked in:) So funny! I wish I would've thought to have them check me before I went through the effort of holding still for a silly needle:) BUT, it all worked out fine, I think I'm just destined to always feel childbirth:)
I can't even count all the miracles associated with this labor and delivery. Little Reese Caroline is absolutely perfect. She is such a doll and was born at 8'8" 19inches long (not as big as we thought). There were no complications with her delivery and our recovery has been as good as it can be. It just reminds me how aware the Lord is of our situation and how in control he is. I am so grateful for that. I know it wasn't that big a deal that she was born a couple days early from her scheduled induction, but it made all the difference to us. Ben had M, T, W off from school, but had to work TH, and Fri, so had she been born later, we would've had complications with his schedule too.
As it is, we have been extremely well taken care of! As Ike put it today, everyone has just been mealing and mealing us! We are spoiled. We have also had amazing people calling to help out with the boys and bringing us beautiful little girl clothes, etc. I know that this is what life is all about. It truly is a miracle to bring a little baby into the world and a true miracle to have amazing angels around us helping us at every obstacle. I can never be grateful enough.

P.S. I told you this was going to be long:) It's ok if you skipped to the end... thanks for indulging me!

A little cleanup

With little baby well on his/her way, I finally am caving and going to post the 2 pictures I took over Christmas break:) Christmas this year was a crazy whirlwind (I think any of our family members would describe it that way!) but, so fun too.
We started break with a WONDERFUL visit from my parents and Uncle Andy. Truly, (I know I'm pregnant and way sentimental), but we had such a great time. It was so good to all be together. We basically hung out and showed them fun things all over the valley. The only unfortunate part is that ANDY and my parents were the primary photographers, so those pics may come to us in about June:) IF we're lucky!! They were able to stay for Christmas too, which was such a sweet bonus. I really don't know who enjoyed it more, our little boys, or grandma and grandpa (or us!), it was just an amazing few days. I hope that's a tradition we can repeat, even with the long trips and crazy amounts of wrapping paper and presents:)
The day after Christmas, we all reluctantly left the valley of the sun for north country. By that I mean we drove to Idaho for 2 (yes 2) of Ben's sibling's weddings. It was a long, but amazingly uneventful drive to Idaho. The kids are sooo good in the car (I'll knock on wood now...) Hannah got sealed in the Rexburg temple Dec. 27th to Nick. They are such a cute little couple. It is so surreal to see a younger sibling get married (Hannah was 10 when we got married)! I didn't realize how old we were and how "un-newlywed" we were until now:) These two have the world at their feet and it'll be exciting to see where life takes them and what Heavenly Father has in store for them:) It was a great day!
I think in between weddings was *secretly* funner than wedding days;) It is such a blast to hang out with Ben's siblings. It's really like my own family. We just love being together. I don't think there is anything better than sitting around after our kids are in bed and just talking about life, philosophies, each other, you know... whatever. We love each of them and truly truly enjoyed that time together!
Ben's brother Paul (Uncle Paulie to my kiddos) got married December 30th (I know what you're thinking, Ben's POOR MOTHER!) You don't know the half of it, although she is still alive today, so she is nothing short of AMAZING! Paulie married Kylie in the Salt Lake Temple. I LOVE going to sealings in the temple. I really don't remember everything about our own, but I love listening to the promises they're given, the counsel and direction. What an amazing day. This couple too, has so much in store for them and we are so excited to have Kylie in our family too!
After and with all this, we were able to stay in some amazing hotels (Isaac's favorite thing in the world!) AND even catch up with Joni and Clay for Joni's birthday weekend too. I LOVE watching Macy and Isaac together. This is true true friendship. They were able to play at an indoor waterpark together, along with the other kiddos and just have a good time.
As you can  see, we are SO BLESSED with amazing family and consequently, the BEST FRIENDS anyone could ever ask for.

Brotherly Love... and craziness

These two boys are self proclaimed "best friends." I'm so glad. They have so much fun together. I had someone comment the other day, "they are really good. They don't get in to things and they play together, but they don't fight!" That is MOSTLY true. There are squabbles every once in awhile "MOM! Isaac said I'm a baby squirrel but I'm really a baby tiger!" and I'll gladly field that one:) but mostly, they just have crazy senses of humor and imagination. There is always singing, dancing, "bizarre food making" and pretending going on.

Family Time- *finally back to the holidays*

Just found these treasures on our camera:) It is from our trip to Pinedale this winter to meet up with Joni, Clay, Grandma and Grandpa Pokorny and Andy. I think this was the funnest couple of days we've ever had in Pinedale. It had been a couple years since we were all together and we laughed WAY too much, ate WAY too much, and played WAY too much:) Miss you guys!

Ohh Baby!

Hiking at Thunderbird Park a couple Saturdays ago... our new favorite Saturday morning adventure:)
Ohh Baby is right! I know I have lots of catching up to do from the holidays... I will get to that:) Someday. BUT today I had to take a minute to reflect on this new little baby that will be born in 6 WEEKS. 6 weeks?! Yes, 6 weeks. Yikes.
With each of our little ones, Ben and I have known when the time was right to have them and the same is especially true this time. Already, our family seems to be waiting for this new addition like he or she is someone we have been missing all along. The little boys talk to my babybelli like a long lost friend in the most loving, affectionate ways. "Hi you sweet little baby! How are you doing today? Are you kicking your mama? Did you have a good sleep? Did you like your dinner, little baby?" -Ike
"Hi seet little baby! Djyou like that I just did, baby? Djyou want me do it again? I kiss your sweet little baby, mama!"- Zachary

Needless to say, there is a lot of love being given to this sweet little baby and his or her crazy mama. The two little boys and their daddy are taking good care of me. The boys have decided to compliment absolutely everything I wear and hug and kiss me on the baby whenever they possibly can (I have lots of dirty shirts at the end of the week to prove it- all with lip stains from barbeque sauce to popsicle! And Ben has taken to making dinner on Sunday nights and picking up all the heavy things for me. True. LOVE.
The bottom line is this... Although we don't know the sex of this baby, we are thrilled. Mommy is nervous beyond belief and nesting like crazy. The boys are ecstatic:) Stay tuned!

What can I say?

This is really sad... You know how when you get so far BEHIND in a project that you just don't know where to start? That is my blog story! We have had a wonderful fall filled with lots of good adventures, but in the process of running here and there and everywhere, I have forgotten to sit down and document anything:) We did have a great Thanksgiving in Idaho and Wyoming and are welcoming some family to Arizona before we take off for TWO sibling weddings after Christmas!
So, yes, we are still alive. Pregnancy is going well; so well, in fact, that most of the time I forget I am pregnant until I get an off the wall comment like today at church... "Hey, you know you could get in trouble for stealing basketballs." WHAT?! I didn't get it and had to have the gentleman explain that he was referring to my baby belli (I prefer to call it a sz. 4 soccer ball but whatever)!
Dental School is also going well. Ben cleaned my teeth the other day! I must really love him:) He did a great job, in spite:)
Ike is enjoying preschool this year and has decided his two most favorite things are learning about countries/states/flags and the human body. His interests are so much like his daddy's it's scary. He is constantly dragging Zachary off on interesting adventures to France or South Korea or Brazil... whichever place he has most recently talked about with me. I love it. I love to see his enthusiasm and am grateful for his little talents. What a treasure!
Zachary is a little ball of spunk. He greets me in the morning with "Good morning momma polar bear!" or some other animal and is constantly asking my baby belli if it likes his new joke, or funny face, or strange thing he has just made up... sounds like this "Djew like dat little baby?!" Zach may have had walking troubles in the beginning, but this fall he has certainly overcome all of them and is now running/jumping/climbing better than most. He is also learning to ride his little bike. Whatever brother does, you can bet Zach will do it. AND then he'll push the envelope to make it "funnier."
Yep, that's life everyday for us right now. We are so enjoying Arizona/time of life/little boys/weather. It is a wild ride, but there is far too much fun along the way!

We Are The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything!

This is our collection of hand-me-downs, something borrowed, thrift store, and momma's homemade touch! We had several halloween events over the course of two weeks, and are glad to not be putting any more eyeliner on daddy! (He was whiny, particular, and needed too much help getting it off:) It was a blast and the boys were so proud of our little pirate brood!

Zach's first year in the bounce house- "I big boy now!"

We love the AzDA event b/c our kids are the only ones and they take full advantage of that!

Sweet brothers- notice flip flops- it was 90* for Halloween this year! (not complaining)
